Finding Affordable Dog Spaying & Neutering

If you don’t plan on breeding your dog to better its dog breed line, then it is always best to spay or neuter your pet when the time is right. The problem many people are finding today is that such animal procedures are becoming more and more costly as noted by the comment to a recent blog post I received:

“I was recently informed that to just neuter a dog, the price has increased to over $300. Where are the caring vets? This is a Vet Vulture price. No wonder more people are not spaying or neutering their animals. What kind of incentive is this? Years ago I had dogs where the price was easy on the wallet so hand in hand, the animal population could be reduced and less unwanted pets abandoned. Vets, apparently, don’t care about animals when they tag a Vulture price beyond affordable family income. I will have to seek out GOOD VETS to weed out VULTURE VETS in helping struggling, hard working families to accomplish the needs of their pet(s).”

While it is true that there are a number of veterinarians that are in their field for the money, there are other resources available when you receive a hefty price quote for such a procedure. You want to do what is best for your dog, so here are some alternatives:

  • Spay Wisconsin – Although this program is specifically for the state of Wisconsin, there are many humane societies that will list free or low cost spay and neutering procedures through highly qualified veterinarians. Read more about the Wisconsin Humane Society – Spay Wisconsin program to see if such a program is available in your area.
  • Free Spay and Neutering Services – Each state runs their own program and many lists their services online. I just Googled “free spay clinics” and came up with a great list of Free Spay and Neuter Services Listed by State.
  • Spay & Neuter Organizations – There are so many organizations out there looking to help decrease the pet population in the United States. One great one is Spay USA. Just visit their website and check out spay and neuter events or find a clinic near you.

There are so many options available to find reliable and affordable spay and neutering services in your area. Whenever you are in doubt, always contact your local humane society, SPCA or animal rescue for referrals.
